Google Maps: Red X in Antarctica incites conspiracy theorists
Google Maps, created in 2005, has revealed wonders across the globe to online users from the comfort of their own home.
Yet four years before this, Google Earth was created in 2001 showing the world in a whole new way.
Images seen on it have led to many conspiracy theorists to speculate a number of ideas such as the thought of hidden bases and UFO sightings.
A new image has led to a furore of ideas online.
Whilst zooming into the icy terrain, a large red X in a triangle can be seen
YouTube channel Conspiracy Deport reveals something extremely baffling in Antarctica.
Whilst zooming into the icy terrain, a large red X in a triangle can be seen.
This only happens when the weather setting is turned on in Google Earth.
When zooming in it seems to be pointing to something in the snow.
Google Maps: The large red X is seen over Antarctica, pointing to something
The video says: “Looking through Google Earth tonight when I noticed a huge red X pointing to an area in Antarctica.
“Is it a glitch? Or is somebody at Google showing ‘X marks the spot?’”
No-one has offered up any concrete theories yet for the weird image.
One YouTube user chose to debunk any claims of hidden secrets from Google: “I’m guessing it’s a marker for an issue in the software that needs addressing and has gone out to the live environment.
“Like a comment in code saying ‘fix this bit’.”
Google Maps: The red X could be hiding something in Antarctica in a new conspiracy
Just days ago, a different image in Antarctica incited theories of a UFO crash landing.
Tracks in the snow appear to show something that hit the ground and was then dragged along.
Alien enthusiasts believe it is an extra-terrestrial aircraft that fell to earth on the remote South Georgia Island.
An expert has since denied the theory and implies it is simply nature working.
