JetBlue Airlines: The plane’s windscreen shattered mid-flight

The JetBlue Airlines flight was travelling from San Juan to Tampa when th incident occurred.

Flight 1052’s outer windscreen shattered during the flight and the pilots performed an emergency landing.

They diverted to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after the problem occurred.

Whilst no injuries were reported, it is the most recent incident regarding inflight window problems.

ABC reporter Michael Paluska was on the flight at the time and tweeted the incident.

He wrote: “Windshield in cockpit shattered 3/4 of way home on our @JetBlue flight to #Tampa from #PuertoRico.

“Thank you pilots for getting us to Fort Lauderdale safely! Be home in Tampa soon! @abcactionnews.”

He later tweeted that the pilot stated “isn’t uncommon” for it to happen whilst 30,000 feet in the air.

Twitter users were still shocked at the events that transpired.

One wrote: “Very glad you are all safe!”

Another remarked: “Great job by the pilot to calm everyone down and show it was a minor issue but that they’re landing out of extreme caution.”

JetBlue released a statement regarding the landing: “JetBlue flight 1052 from San Juan to Tampa diverted to Fort Lauderdale in an abundance of caution following a report of damage to one of the outer layers of the cockpit windscreen.

“The flight landed safely at approximately 1:00 p.m. local time.

“Customers have been accommodated on another aircraft.”

A number of aircraft have hit the news after their windows have smashed mid-flight.

Southwest Airlines have had two incidents regarding their windows in recent weeks.

One flight saw it splinter mid-flight and fall apart, which is currently being investigated.

Another incident saw the engine explode mid-flight, causing shrapnel to smash the window.

A woman was partially pulled from the window and later died from her injuries.
